Alternatives – Founded by Lydia Jones
Founded in 1989 by Lydia Jones, Alternatives provides its customers with a wide range of tailoring and personalised fitting services.
Lydia Jones was trained by Aquascutum and worked in its factories for 5 years as a machinist, a quality controller and a supervisor. She has City and Guilds in Women’s Bespoke Tailoring from the London College of Fashion. She later worked for Eastex (garment manufacturer), Kay Cosserat (Knitwear designer) and Adloo (garment manufacturer).
She has been self-employed since 1981 with a short interval in 1988-1989, when she managed Ambassador Dry-Cleaning in Dickins and Jones in Central Milton Keynes until a fire damaged the shop. She was consequently made redundant.
Alternatives in Stony Stratford was opened in September 1989.
As modern times require a modern approach, Alternatives left its premises in 2008 to start a mobile tailoring and consultation service. Lydia Jones is ready to come to your home or work and provide a personal tailoring service within 25 miles of Stony Stratford. Once your clothes have been fitted, they will be altered and returned to you by van or by post (at your convenience).
Alternatives became a founder member of Milton Keynes and North Bucks Chamber of Commerce in 1995. Lydia Jones has relied on their advice and support since then.
